Habit 1: Be Proactive

In September, we focused on Stephen Covey's Habit 1:  Be Proactive.  We learned that we are in charge of ourselves.  We can control our own actions.  Here's one way we are showcasing our habits this year.

Reflections Celebration and Awards 2014

Many of our creative scholars were recognized on Tuesday evening at our annual school Reflections celebration and awards ceremony.  Congratulations to our winners who will now move on to district competition!  Thank you to Mrs. Kenworthy and Mrs. Hall for organizing this event and thank you to our PTA for sponsoring it yearly.

Northern Kentucky Youth Orchestra Performs

For our opening reception at this year's Reflections awards, the Northern Kentucky Youth Orchestra performed for our guests.  They sounded simply amazing.  We're so proud to have hosted these talented instrumentalists.

Treats for Troops Collection

Each year we collect candy to donate to troops overseas to extend the service project Megan Kelly started years ago when she was a student at Cooper High School.  Megan, now a student studying to be a teacher, still helps local schools donate to this neat cause.  This year, Longbranch collected 752 pounds of candy.  WOW!!

Veterans Day at Longbranch

Longbranch Elementary School celebrated Veteran’s Day by honoring parents and grandparents that courageously serve our country.  Breakfast was served in our Media Center and then our Veterans were escorted to the gymnasium where MaryKay Birtcil and Tanvi Rakesh spoke to our students and staff about the importance of servitude. 

Our Longbranch Choir sang “Star-Spangled Banner “ and our Leaders in Patriotism led our building in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Star Math, Round 2

Star Math testing is complete for round 2 (out of 4 this year). The results are very positive for our scholars. Out of the 585 students tested in grades 2-5, 10% are below the 50th percentile of the nation. 90% of our kids are performing in the top half of the nation. A staggering 70% of our students are performing in the top quartile--that's the top quarter of the nation. The label may say Needs Improvement but the data proves once again that our Achievement is pretty incredible. Better yet, 94% of our students grew from test 1 to test 2 this year. Big props to our students, their teachers, and their supportive parents for believing that our kids can achieve ANYTHING.

Star Reading, Round 2

Star Reading testing is complete for round 2 (out of 4 this year). We are pleased with our results and focused on continual growth this year for our kids. Only 25% of our students are performing in the bottom 50th percentile of the nation. 75% of our kids are performing in the top half of the nation. 50% of our kids are in the top quartile of that nation meaning 50% of the Longbranch kids perform better than 75% of the nation. Keep reaching for the stars, kids. You can achieve whatever you put your mind to and we'll be there to support you every step of the way.
