We Love Science Class
Science experiment from yesterday exploring kinetic and potential energy. The kids had to design a 5cm tall ramp and 10cm tall ramp so we could test whether a car had more energy on the 5cm ramp or 10cm ramp using science process skills to answer a testable question.
Using Minecraft to Master Explanatory Writing
Students in the media center (library class), create 5-paragraph explanatory essays with the purpose of teaching a peer how to create a structure in MinecraftEDU, then get to work testing the essay's teaching effectiveness. Fabulous lesson!
Fifth Grade Timeline Project
Students in Mrs. Pendleton's class complete an Expeditionary Learning lesson in which they are sequencing the events of the Revolutionary War by creating a timeline. Students first must read a text critically, identify key information, and work collaboratively to create the timeline. Students then tore apart each event in the war (as indicated in the text) and talked about how they events were connected and why each was important in the timeline. Finally, students are tasked with using their resources to create a summary of the events of the Revolutionary War. TOUGH! But the kids did a really fabulous job determining which items in the timeline were most important to highlight in a summary of a huge event in time.
